Terms of Service

These Terms of Service govern your use of Pan Africa Data and the services provided by Pan Africa Data (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in South Africa (Registration No. 2020/663811/07). By accessing or using our platform you agree to be bound by these terms.

1. About Pan Africa Data

Pan Africa Data is operated by Pan Africa Data (Pty) Ltd, registered in the Republic of South Africa. Our platform provides structured demographic and macroeconomic data for African countries via a REST API and downloadable reports. Payments are processed by Paddle.com Market Limited, our authorised reseller and Merchant of Record.

2. Services

Pan Africa Data provides the following services:

Free trial: 7-day access to limited data. One trial per email address.
Country Pack subscription: Monthly subscription for selected countries.
Professional subscription: Monthly subscription for full platform access.
Enterprise: Custom access arrangements negotiated directly.
On-demand credits: Pay-per-cell access to historical and forecast data.
Country reports: One-off Excel downloads of structured data packages.

3. Account registration and trial

To access our services you must register with a valid email address. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your API key and account credentials.

The free trial is limited to one trial per email address. We reserve the right to terminate trial accounts that we reasonably believe are being used to circumvent this limit. Trial access expires automatically after 7 days and does not renew.

4. Subscriptions and billing

Subscription fees are billed monthly in advance in US dollars. All payments are processed by Paddle.com, our Merchant of Record. By subscribing you authorise Paddle to charge your payment method on a recurring monthly basis until you cancel.

Prices are subject to change. We will give you at least 30 days notice of any price increase. Continued use of the service after a price change constitutes acceptance of the new price.

Country Pack subscriptions are billed per country per month. You may add or remove countries at any time. Changes take effect at the start of your next billing cycle.

5. Download limits and fair use

Each subscription tier includes a monthly cell download limit as described on our pricing page. These limits exist to ensure fair access for all users and to protect platform performance. Limits reset on the first day of each calendar month.

Professional plan: 8,500 historical cells per month. Country Pack: 50,000 cells per month per account. On-demand: charged per cell with no monthly limit.

We reserve the right to suspend accounts that we reasonably believe are being used in a manner that circumvents download limits, including but not limited to sharing API keys between multiple users or organisations.

Each Professional account includes 3 API keys. Each Country Pack account includes 1 API key. API keys may not be shared outside your organisation without our written consent.

6. Data sources and attribution

Pan Africa Data aggregates, cleans, structures and delivers data originally sourced from:

The World Bank — World Development Indicators (licensed under CC-BY 4.0)
International Monetary Fund — World Economic Outlook database
UN Population Division — population projections

Underlying World Bank data is available free at data.worldbank.org. Underlying IMF data is available free at imf.org. You are purchasing our aggregation, cleaning, structuring, gap filling and delivery service — not the raw underlying data.

When you use or redistribute data obtained from Pan Africa Data you must include attribution to the original sources as specified in the metadata included with each data record.

Pan Africa Data is not endorsed by or affiliated with The World Bank, the International Monetary Fund or the United Nations.

7. Intellectual property

The Pan Africa Data platform, including our API, database structure, gap-filling methodology, forecast models and website, is the intellectual property of Pan Africa Data (Pty) Ltd. You may not copy, reproduce or redistribute our platform, methodology or derived products without our written consent.

Data you obtain through our platform may be used for your internal business purposes, research and analysis. You may include data in reports and presentations provided you include appropriate attribution. You may not resell or redistribute the data as a standalone data product without our written consent.

8. Prohibited uses

You may not use Pan Africa Data to:

Scrape, bulk download or systematically extract data beyond your subscription limits
Share API keys with users outside your organisation
Resell or redistribute data as a standalone data product
Use the data in a manner that violates applicable law
Reverse engineer or attempt to replicate our platform or methodology
Use automated tools to circumvent access controls or rate limits

9. Service availability

We aim to provide reliable service but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. Planned maintenance will be communicated in advance where possible. We shall not be liable for any losses arising from service interruptions.

We reserve the right to modify, suspend or discontinue any part of our service at any time. In the event of discontinuation of a paid service we will provide at least 30 days notice and a pro-rata refund for any unused subscription period.

10. Data accuracy

We make reasonable efforts to ensure data accuracy but cannot guarantee that all data is free from errors. Data is provided as is without warranty of any kind. We are not liable for any decisions made on the basis of data obtained from our platform.

Every data record includes a value type indicator (M = Measured, I = Interpolated, CF = Carried Forward, TE = Trend Extrapolation, P = IMF Projection) so you can assess the nature of each data point before use.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Pan Africa Data (Pty) Ltd shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data or business opportunities, arising from your use of our services.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of our services shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 3 months preceding the claim.

12. Termination

You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. We do not provide refunds for partial months except as set out in our Refund Policy.

We reserve the right to terminate or suspend your account immediately if you breach these Terms of Service.

13. Governing law

These Terms of Service are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of South Africa.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or through the platform. Continued use of our services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
