Pan Africa Data (Pty) Ltd (Registration No. 2020/663811/07) is the responsible party for personal information processed through the Pan Africa Data platform at panafricadata.com. We are a data platform company based in South Africa providing structured economic and demographic data for African markets.

2. What personal information we collect
We collect the following personal information when you use our platform:
- Account information: Email address, name and organisation name when you register
- Payment information: Payment is processed by Paddle.com — we do not store your card details. We receive confirmation of payment and your billing country from Paddle.
- Usage information: API queries made, data downloaded, pages visited, IP address, browser type and device information
- Communication: Emails you send to us and our responses
We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined under POPIA.
3. How we use your personal information
We use your personal information to:
- Provide and manage your access to our platform
- Process payments and manage your subscription
- Send you transactional emails including API key delivery, receipts and service notifications
- Enforce our one trial per email address policy
- Monitor and enforce download limits and fair use policies
- Improve our platform and develop new features
- Respond to your enquiries and provide support
- Comply with our legal obligations
We will only send you marketing communications if you have given us consent to do so. You may withdraw consent at any time by clicking unsubscribe in any marketing email or by contacting us.
4. Legal basis for processing
We process your personal information on the following grounds:
- Contract: Processing necessary to provide the services you have purchased
- Legitimate interest: Preventing abuse of our free trial, enforcing download limits, improving our platform
- Legal obligation: Complying with South African law and our obligations to Paddle as our payment processor
- Consent: Marketing communications where you have opted in
5. How we share your information
We share your personal information only in the following circumstances:
- Paddle.com: Our payment processor and Merchant of Record. Paddle processes payments and manages billing on our behalf. Paddle's privacy policy applies to information shared with them.
- Render.com: Our hosting provider. Your data passes through Render's infrastructure to deliver our services.
- Supabase: Our database provider. Your account data and usage logs are stored in Supabase's infrastructure.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose your information where required by law or to protect our legal rights.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not share your information with advertisers.
6. International transfers
Our infrastructure providers (Render, Supabase, Paddle) are based outside South Africa. By using our services you consent to your personal information being transferred to and processed in the United States and European Union. We take reasonable steps to ensure these transfers comply with applicable data protection law.
7. How long we keep your information
- Account information: For as long as your account is active, plus 3 years after closure for legal compliance purposes
- Payment records: 5 years as required by South African tax law
- Usage logs: 12 months rolling
- Trial registration records: Indefinitely, to enforce our one trial per email policy
- Support communications: 2 years
8. Your rights under POPIA
As a data subject under POPIA you have the right to:
- Be notified that we hold your personal information
- Request access to your personal information
- Request correction of inaccurate personal information
- Request deletion of your personal information (subject to legal retention requirements)
- Object to the processing of your personal information
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa

9. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information including encryption in transit, API key authentication, and access controls on our database. However no system is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If we become aware of a data breach that is likely to affect your rights and freedoms we will notify you and the Information Regulator as required by POPIA.
10. Cookies
Our website uses essential cookies to maintain your session and remember your preferences. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser settings but this may affect platform functionality.
11. Children
Our services are not directed at persons under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email. The date at the top of this policy shows when it was last updated.
